For Patients

When you undergo a routine in-vitro fertilization (IVF) or an intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) cycle, your embryos will be kept in an incubator with strictly controlled environment. Conventionally, during incubation, the embryos must be taken out from the incubator periodically to check its development under a microscope. After checking, embryos must be returned inside the incubator as quickly as possible to avoid any potential damage. This process is done 2 or 3 times over 3-5 days, in order to assess embryo quality and select the best embryo(s) to be transferred to the patient.
